“We have some amazing public parks in our community, and Park and Recreation Month is a reminder to take full advantage of them,” Connor said. “Getting outside has always improved your mood and your health, and now COVID has made being outside healthier in a new way."

According to the National Recreation and Park Association, parks create a significant increase in the quality of life by providing spaces where community members to come together. Many public parks are used to host public events or hold recreational programs as well, providing residents with various opportunities for involvement.

Parks also provide spaces where people can go to keep healthy and fit both mentally and physically, as visits to parks can be connected to reductions in stress, lowered blood pressure, and general physical health, according to a study by Penn State University.

“Parks provide us a common space to congregate and strengthen our communities,” Connor said. “This month, I hope we all take some time to get outside and appreciate how we all benefit from our local parks and outdoor recreational spaces.”
